Academic Plans/Degree Requirements All University of Maryland students are required to complete a minimum of 120 credits and earn a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. They are also responsible for completing the General Education Requirements. Additionally, students are responsible for completing the College of Arts and Humanities’ Requirements. College Requirements ARHU158 All ARHU first year students (excluding students participating in one of the following programs: Honors, Honors Humanities, Gemstone, College Park Scholars, Writers’ House, Civicus, or Global Communities) must take ARHU158, Explorations in Arts and Humanities, during their first semester on campus. Upper Level Credits All ARHU students, with the exception of students earning a Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Music Education degree, must earn a minimum of 45 hours of 3xx-4xx level credit. Students earning a Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Music Education degree should consult a Music advisor. Effective fall 2024, all ARHU students entering the college, with the exception of students earning a Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Music Education degree, must earn a minimum of 39 hours of 3xx-4xx level credit.  Students earning a Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Music Education degree should consult a Music advisor. Global Engagement Requirement The ARHU Global Engagement Requirement responds to the University Strategic Plan’s call for students to “be prepared to live, work, and thrive in the current and future world environment.” We believe that the development of cultural competence will result in the knowledge, skills and disposition needed to understand, communicate with, and effectively interact with people across cultures and is an integral component in an arts and humanities education.
